contest :: February 2005

THE WINNERS:

Icicles, snow, rain and sleet,
Signs of winter cover the street.
Some people love the cold sensation,
Wonder if they have insulation?
Do you think we'll soon feel heat?

First Place :: Lorna P

Where does that Punxsutawney Phil hide?
I'd like to kick him in the backside.
I want it to be Spring
So I can hear birds sing
And play with my own shadow outside.

Second Place :: Lori S

You don't see many monkeys in snow,
I wonder, where do they go,
Even though they get cold,
So I am told,
The bananas are still good to go.

Third Place :: John P

It's time to write a limerick! Since Punxsutawney Phil (everyone's favorite groundhog) gave us the bad news about six more weeks of winter, this month's contest will go to the person who can write the best limerick about winter!

Funny, serious, sad...it doesn't matter how you write it, as long as it's about winter! Each person can only enter once, so when you have finished your masterpiece, send it in for your chance to win! But hurry -- the deadline is Friday, February 25.

HOW IT WORKS:

A limerick should be five lines long and follow these rules:

1. Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with each other.
2. Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other.

3. It must be your own work. No copying from anyone/thing else.

Here are two examples I found online:

What is a limerick, Mother?
It's a form of verse, said brother
In which lines one and two
Rhyme with five when it's through
And three and four rhyme with each other.

There was a young boy in fifth grade
Who always was rude to the aide.
He called her a jerk
And tried not to work,
And so in detention he stayed.

THE PRIZE:

Troy
