 76-WORD REVIEW [JAN 12]

Picking up where Dead or Alive left off, Clancy’s familiar cast of characters once again faces a world-threatening terrorist who, thanks to recently acquired nuclear weapons, finally has the firepower to back his political ambition. On the homefront, Ryan Sr. is trying to get re-elected but faces stiff opposition from powerful enemies. The plot was a little thin in places, and some notable questions unanswered, but the familiarity of the dramatis personae smooths the rough patches.

 76-WORD REVIEW [JUL 11]

Clancy introduces us to Maxwell Moore, Navy SEAL and CIA operative whose undercover work amidst the Taliban cells of Pakistan leads him to discover a plot that involves using the Mexican drug cartels to smuggle terrorists into the United States. Moore provides some much-needed fresh blood in Clancy’s long-running character pool. Clancy has now churned out his second book in six months (with some help on each), and continues to write high-stakes, nicely entertaining military thrillers.

 76-WORD REVIEW [JAN 11]

Clancy returns to the bestseller list after seven years, picking up with some of his most frequented characters: Jack Ryan, John Clark, Ding Chavez, and more. What could bring so many diverse people together? Nothing less than the hunt for an elusive terrorist leader known as The Emir. With globe-spanning action and plenty of intrigue, Clancy delivers a satisfying and entertaining tale of adventure--while leaving the door wide open for many tales yet to come.
