 76-WORD REVIEW [JUL 10]

An attempt to cure all human disease goes horribly wrong (doesn’t it always?) and the world is overrun by vampire-like creatures known as virals. With humanity near extinction, their only hope lies in a girl named Amy, Cronin goes for an epic feel in this, the first of a planned trilogy, and nearly succeeds. His strong writing holds interest, but he snatches core characters from certain death too often. Not overly gory, but foul language abounds.
