 76-WORD REVIEW [DEC 11]

Greear encourages Christians to realign their lives on the truth of the gospel—that their standing before God is now and forever fulfilled perfectly in Christ. Using a gospel-themed prayer, Greear guides readers through the basics of this message then explores the way that these truths will necessarily impact the cadence of believers’ lives. He is overly repetitious on some ideas, but in all has crafted a welcomed addition to the recent resurgence of gospel-centered books.

 FIVE QUOTES

Satan’s most effective weapon is to take our eyes off of what God has declared over us in the gospel. Satan’s primary temptation strategy is to try and make us forget what God has said about us and to evaluate our standing before God by some other criteria. [50]

When we no longer see money as our primary source of security and beauty, we naturally will have more to give away. Christians who worship God, not money, need much less from the world to be happy and secure. [138]

God’s power is not primarily about victory over your particular situation. It’s about the glory of His name on earth. Sometimes He does that by giving you victory over an obstacle; other times He does that be letting you suffer to show a watching world that He is better than anything else on the earth. [182]

We must not reinterpret how God feels about us based on our circumstances. The cross settles forever how God feels about us, and the resurrection shoes us how much power He is using to bring about His good plan for our lives. [185]

Our obedience to God when we don’t feel like it can even be an act of faith in and of itself, as our act of obedience is a cry to God for Christ’s sake to change our hearts so that we desire to obey. That certainly has more faith in it than not obeying. [198]
