 76-WORD REVIEW

After Hitler’s defeat, the Allies looked to invade Japan. This required taking the island of Okinawa to use as a staging ground. That battle proved to be one of the deadliest of the entire war. Sloan recounts the fight through first-hand accounts, something increasingly difficult to do, as old age and sickness do what bullets and mortars could not. Thanks to books like this one, however, the bravery and sacrifice of these men will outlive them.
